Boom City Appro

One of VYY’s biggest events is Boom City Appro, which is organized every spring. The Appro is an interdisciplinary event at the heart of Vaasa, and it attracts students from all over Finland. In Boom City Appro, participants tour restaurants in Vaasa center and enjoy live music, as well as activities that vary from year to year.

The Annual Ball

The Student Union of the University of Vaasa organizes the Annual Ball every year. It is VYY’s most distinguished event, which includes guests from our own members, the University of Vaasa, and Student Unions from all over Finland. In the Annual Ball, VYY is celebrated with a cocktail event, after which there is a formal dinner. 

The Wappu Crawl

Vappu is the biggest student event in Finland. In Vaasa, VYY gathers all events from our members and students organizations into one Wappu Crawl. Participants receive a Wappu Crawl pass, and can tour events to win their Wappu title. 

We give out 500–700 Wappu Crawl passes annually. VYY also organizes our own traditional vappu events, like sima yoga and the wappu silliz, which ends our wappu and May Day celebrations. 

The Tutor Project and Fresher Fall

Over 1,700 students arrive in Vaasa every fall, and the amount increases every year. The Student Union is in charge of tutoring new students. That’s why we organize the tutor project, which includes all new students as well as VYY’s 100 tutors. Students arrive in Vaasa to study in Finnish and international Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes and exchange studies. 

The aim of the tutor project is to acquaint new students with Vaasa and to make them feel welcome in the academic community and the City of Vaasa. To accomplish this goal, we organize various events from sports to parties. We also work in close cooperation with the University of Vaasa to organize orientations for new students. We support our students all through their first term. The tutor project is important to new students, and it’s an excellent way to gain visibility among new students.
