Helin Karatag has started as VYY's Election Coordinator

The Board of the Student Union of the University of Vaasa (VYY) has selected Helin Karatag as the new Election Coordinator of the Student Union. As Election Coordinator, Karatag ill work on the elections for the VYY’s Representative Council in the autumn and will be responsible for organising election events, election-related communication and marketing  and other arrangements. The coordinator works closely with the central electoral committee and VYY’s staff.

Karatag studies Administrative Sciences at the University of Vaasa. Her previous experience includes working as a speaker in Walter ry’s KYTKE project. She is also a current board member in Warrantti ry’s PiMu club.

"I’m really excited to start as the Election Coordinator at VYY. It’s great to be a part of organizing the representative council elections and supporting students in making their voice heard - it’s going to be an amazing autumn!“, Karatag says.

RepCo elections are organized every two years, when a 30-member representative council is elected. RepCo is the highest decision-making body of the Student Union and which decides on the VYY's strategy, budget, membership fee and other major policy issues. RepCo also chooses the Board and General Secretary for the Student Union

In the elections, students will decide who will be making decisions about VYY's activities in the coming years, so it is important to get students to stand for election and vote. This is where the Election Coordinator plays a key role. I look forward to seeing what Helin can do around the project!" comments Lauri Tuohiniemi, Secretary General of the Student Union.
