Casimir Timonen and Helen Rankaviita are VYY’s new tutor coordinators

VYY has appointed Casimir Timonen as the tutor coordinator, and Helen Rankaviita as the international tutor coordinator for this year’s tutor project. As coordinators they are in charge of organising this year’s tutor project. Timonen and Rankaviita have started their work by planning the project and organizing the ongoing recruitments. In the spring, their tasks will also include organising training and activities aimed at familiarising the tutors and tutor educators with each other. Rankaviita’s tasks as international tutor coordinator will also include planning the tutoring for next spring term’s new students.

Casimir Timonen is responsible for tutoring in degree programmes in Finnish. He is a third-year student in business and economics at the University of Vaasa. He is familiar with VYY’s tutor project through acting as a tutor and educator in previous years. 

“We’re expecting the biggest tutor project of all time! Fun times and unforgettable memories lie ahead”, Timonen rejoices. 

International tutor coordinator Helen Rankaviita is a fourth-year student in electrical engineering and energy technology at the University of Vaasa. For her, the position is familiar from last year. 

“I applied to the position again, because I had loads of ideas on how to further develop the project”, Rankaviita says. She is looking forward to meeting new people and gaining new experiences in the tutor project.

Tutor coordinators work closely with VYY’s executive board and staff. 

“We recruited amazing coordinators and I’m looking forward to working together with them! The tutor project is close to my heart, because I was also a tutor in 2023. It’s fun to be a part of the project again, this time as a member of the executive board”, celebrates board member responsible for tutoring and Vice Chair Katarina Roivainen. 

Next, the new tutor coordinators will recruit tutors. Rankaviita and Timonen encourage everyone to apply. 

“We need all kinds of people. Tutor training will give everyone the know-how, and practical skills develop during the project”, the coordinators remind possible applicants.
