Fresher Fall is the highlight of the year

The tutor project for 2026 is in full swing. VYY’s tutor coordinator this year is Saana Sammalo, and Aleksi Lumme is the international tutor coordinator. They are in charge of organizing the fall’s tutor project, and Lumme will also coordinate the Fresher Spring for those beginning their studies in January.
The new coordinators have started working on the project by interviewing and selecting tutor educators and tutors, and project participants have already trained and familiarized with each other.
“I’m feeling great after this spring”, Sammalo praises.
Lumme agrees: “We have an awesome group of tutors with good team spirit. This spring has gone really well!”
Sammalo is a third-year student in communications, and Lumme studies business and economics. Both know the tutor project inside and out, starting from their own Fresher Fall and working in different roles as a tutor and tutor educator. The chance to see the project once more as a tutor coordinator motivated them to apply.
“Fresher Fall is the best time of the year”, Lumme says. “Every time I think this was the funnest thing ever, but then the next thing is even better.”
Sammalo also sees Fresher Fall as the highlight of the year. “It’s also a good chance to meet new friends from all disciplines, because tutors are often active people from different fields.”
After a smooth spring, the duo expects good events, good mood, and lots of good people from the upcoming Fresher Fall.
“The team spirit that educators and tutors have also comes across to freshers”, the coordinators rejoice.
What do you want to say to this fall’s freshers?
Aleksi Lumme: “Come to Vaasa with an open mind and give the city a chance! A lot of students come to Vaasa from other cities, so you’re not facing this new phase in life alone.”
Saana Sammalo: “Vaasa is a big student city, and students have a great community spirit here. There’s also plenty of opportunities to participate in interesting things, so there’s something for everyone.”
